If you ask an elementary school student what they want to be when they grow up, many will say they dream of playing college or professional sports. As that child grows up and becomes more cynical (or realistic), the dream of playing a sport in college is often pushed into the background. Students start to think in terms of probability and practicality rather than allow themselves to pursue their dreams. The chances of playing a college or professional sport seem far-fetched to the average person in the general public yet, there is a place for average athletes to play. Your mission, should you accept it, is to find the place where you can continue playing your sport at the next level.
When most people think of college sports, they immediately think of NCAA schools at the Division 1 level. What most athletes don’t understand is that 80% of the opportunities to play college sports is outside of NCAA D1. People often forget that there are multiple athletic governing bodies in the world – the world is bigger than the NCAA. Two of the best known are the NAIA and the NJCAA, but there are still five or six others!
If you are a student-athlete with average to above average talent and a passion to continue playing sports in college, there is a place for you to play. There is a roster waiting to have your name on it. You just have to do some research to find that place to make your dreams come true!
